wait for me ....I would say female based on the fact the anal scutes look like a larger round butterfly than and elongated butterfly shape ! That's the science !

Good guess but I'm not sure you can always go on anal scutes when they are little I've had some before that you would say we're a certain sex going by the scutes and they change.

Gordon - what does this mean for the tort? Realise I do not know very much about the tail, so excuse my ignorance. Is there a known cause?

I have no idea to be honest it is with a friend and she said it has no problem with pooing or peeing so if it's a female I'm sure it will be fine if male I'm not sure what will happen when it's fully grown.
