Cheers for all the comments guys. Took me few days of solid work to get is house sorted. He seems really happy in there, lovely gradient of temp for him. Was thinking of building him a cold frame extension by the entrance, but still undecided. Plenty of work to do on garden. Might remove another strip of turf so can have more ups n downs. Got some sand, top soil, slate and a few rocks to go in. Gonna plant some shrubs too

Yeah this is all year round accommodation. Got a UV bulb on order to replace the standard light. He also has a 250watt ceramic instead of the 60watt in the pictures. Creates a gradient of around 95 by ceramic down to mid 70's in opposite corner. Tubular heater is set to only to come on if temp drops below 68.

The lid/roof would be best insulated for the winter, great job.

The roof/lid is insulated with 100mm rock wool same as all the walls and floor. Doesn't look like it in the pic with lid open but that's plywood on top of bracing with insulation between that and the ply that's curved for roof. Ordered 5m of epdm rubber p strip to make sure no wind gets between roof and walls to. Might even double insulted roof in the cavities you can see. Can never have too much insulation I say

I think Maverick is one very lucky tort, you have put a lot of thought & hard work in & dont a very neat job. Id love to see some more pictures when you get to the next stage.

What are the measurements of his house?

His house is 150cm by 100cm. Height is around 80cm. He has his door open from 9 till 7 to wander in and out as he pleases. The way I've built it in theory I should be able to "bolt on" extensions. Next year he'll either get a large shed or the garage converted. Or maybe even build my own large shed like house.

Some photos of his outside "play" area. He will only be confined to this area when no one is at home or if my son is playing on grass with trucks. He's still a little to young to understand he cant ram his truck into everything possible!!!!

Pic 1 - His play area with sand, wood, cobbles, soil, slate and grass! Gonna plant few shrubs and plants too.

Pic 2 - Same but facing other way. This one you can see his gate open so can access rest of garden area.
