Ahh Pete.... thats sweet - I have not seen any Newts for years... we used to have them at my mum and dads house.....

Get some batteries for that camera and get uploading so we can see the other pictures.

Well as promised heres a couple of pics as I released him/her into the area at the edge of the pond. Also included a short video of the newt crawling under a rock

It looks like a female or juvenile crested newt .

Pete you do no its illegal to keep newts in captivity and also theres restrictions on handling or moving newts.

Thanks for that Darren. I have read things before about moving newts. I have only moved her just out from where I found her as I didn't think a life in erics water bowl would be anything nice. She was released as soon as she was found

what type is it meant to be illegal to keep? ..... i have 4 chinese/japanese fire-bellied newts, 2 adults and 2 babies

Darren is talking about native UK species.

And while I am back to this thread the newts have saved the day. A housing development which was due to be built down the road on a piece of waste ground has been over turned because of the large population of protected newt species in the near area. My weed field will live to see another day
