Angry *sigh* Rather Annoying

Hey all, thougt id share with you that I have an ear infection (so I think)

Well I saw a nurse practitioner not my doctor on friday after I picked up my tort. I walked in and I explained it all to her, and she said before she checks my bad ear she will look at my good ear to see what everything is suppost to look like I thought to myself what the hell?
Anyway she looked in my bad ear and said that my ear drum has retracted, and inside looks red and inflamed (normally a sign of an infection right?)But she said there isnt an infection just my ear drum has retracted. She then wrote me out with some antibiotics (Amoxicillin) And told me not to take them until saturday afternoon, then she said dont even pick them up until saturday afternoon. Well its monday afternoon now and I started taking them saturday morning because it was so irritating and I feel as though the antibiotics are doing nothing so im going back to the doctors today and hoping to see my actual doctor and hopefully he can sort it out.
Do you think that she should have done or asked more? Or even known what an ear infection is without having to look in my good ear? (also she wrote me out the antibiotics to try stop the any infection coming on or if i have got one then to help clear it up) Sorry for such a long post

Hey Blake! Firstky congrats on your tort!!!!!!

I've had exactley the same thing happen to me about 3 years ago. And I ended up at out of hours surgery on a Sunday after my eardrum burst!!!! Very painful....

I actually lost 70% of my hearing as it kept happening as ear infection every month and then finanly I had an ear infection every week for month spent over £100 on prescription that month.

Anyway moral of my story is that I never see the nurse anymore and always ask for the doctor!!!

Hope you get better soon.

I'm sure nurses here are simply not allowed to write prescriptions out

Hello,Hope you will get it sorted soon

I have had the same ear infection on and off since October, the doctor treated it as an outer ear infection, and had to send me to the hospital the week before christmas to have it scraped out 4 times over a week. They look in your good ear as like me some people get excema in their ears and it doesnt hurt but looks nasty so they try and see how it compares with the one you say hurts.
Anyway this year alone I have had 8 lots of antibiotics, stress causes excema in my ears and then it gets infected
Anyway three weeks ago the ear drum burst I thought I had had a bleed in my brain as I had brain surgery 5 years ago so the air coming out of my ear and the noise it was making could be heard at the other side of the room
I have learnt not to get water in my ear ever, and to see the same doctor each time as I have seen so many, the younger docs think it is really bad as they havent seen as many ears and they make me panic and give you low dose amoxycillin and basically say see you next week as this wont work, but the experienced docs give you the stronger stuff to start with
But of course ears always flare up on a weekend when the choice of doctors is limited
My doc now gives me antibiotics to keep at home and most ear infections either go away by itself with pain relief or can be treated with antibiotic drops
Of course one doctor gave me drops and the ear drum had burst so it hurt like mad
Anyway that is my rant over and I have an urgent ear specialist appointment for MAY
Hope you have some good and positive news soon

Well my first question would be why she gave you antibiotics if it's not an infection???!!! Antibiotics are for bacteria, what gives you an infection of pitty sake! If it's inflamed she should have given you pain meds and an anti-inflammatory. Its all in the names so you can't go wrong

I have to book a month in advance to see my proper Doctor and if I am desperate I just see whoever is free. I always end up feeling like I might as well have just diagnosed myself. The last woman I went to see got pissy because I suggested what I thought was wrong!!!! Don't get me wrong there are some great people in the health service but I really do understand your frustration

Just don't know what is going on in Medical Practices today
Think its now more about money and budgets than the poor old patient
Nurse Practioners can prescribe medication, they are one step down from being a Doctor (whatever that means)
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Blake you have my sympathy, I had an MRSA ear infection for over five years. I had so many diferent antibiotics that i started to rattle as i walked. Only after i saw another specialist as mine had given up was i informed that antibiotics are not very effective on ear infections and that low doses are just useless. By then a lot of damage had been done and i have had a lot of surgery to correct it. Please go back and insist that they examine you properly and not just dish out the pills and send you on your way!!!!

Hey all, well I went back and saw a different doctor she said there was no infection and said that my ear drum had retracted a little bit due to having a stuffy nose. She said that there is a tube and that its connected with the nose and that if I put a decongestant or something similar in hot water and breath in the steam it should help with my ear. Also while we're on the topic of doctors and stuff, Whilst I was there I also asked her about why I keep thinking about dying and thinking about what happens after, and told her it started about a month a go when I first got my Palpitations and that its always on my mind and its starting to frustrate me and get me upset.... She then said she wont give me any medication at the minute but if it carries on then to see my actually doctor. Do you think I have depression or could be getting it? Im starting to get worried. Also I dont know if this will help but when I listen to reggae music, am with my girlfriend, or think about going to a rasta meeting (actual religeos meeting like christians and catholics do at churches) I start to not worry as much...

I have never heard of nurse practitioners we don't have them here.

I don't know what's going on either...
My wife's friend has had a severe headache for 6 weeks now, she was originally being treated for a sinus infection but antibiotics made no difference. next they said it was stress because here father had died, still it continued after more painkillers so they sent her for a scan, all clear they said. next they said it was muscular and advised a massage which she paid £40 for, no better. she then paid for acupuncture, no better. the docs kept assuring her it wasn't serious but it got to the stage where she couldn't go on and phoned an ambulance.

She was seen at A&E and was told they couldn't find anything and she could go home. She said she wasn't going anywhere and wanted to be admitted as it had gone on for 6 weeks so they agreed. they done the same scan as they had done weeks ago and this time told her it's meningitis! she's to get a MRI tomorrow and other tests to determine what strain it is so that she can get the correct antibiotics. they said depending on what type it is she could have died at any time had her temperature gone up. sinuses, stress, muscular
