Horsefield making squelchy noises...
Hello,
First post here, the site has proved invaluable so I am hopeful you will be able to help. I noticed this morning that Barbara, my 18m old female horsefield was making funny squelchy, squeaky noises when she opened her beak. Tom, the male, seems to be fine. She doesn't have any other RNS symptoms. Any suggestions what I should look out for or if I should take her to the vet? I have taken a short video and posted to Youtube. Could it be to do with just having drunk as she was sat in her water bowl? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I1TlFFDZ-s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I1TlFFDZ-s Many thanks, Cressida |

I can hear it. Both my Russians make this noise when they are having an RNS flare up. But with no other RNS signs im not sure. Has she been eatting or drinking something soft/sticky?...... just an idea.

Sounds like she's 'quacking'. I thought there was a duck in the background, but realised it was Barbara.

Hi,
Could it be her "grinding" her beak??? One of mine does this "grinding" beak thing that sounds similar. He opens and closes his mouth making a noise, is Barbara opening and closing her mouth? Just a thought. Row xx |

Mine also do it when they're having or just had a bath.

Thank you guys, they will only really eat dandelion leaves, it is only when she opens and closes her beak so could well be grinding. I will continue to watch her like a hawk and unless anything else develops, take it as normal! She's a real charachter so wouldn't want anything to happen.
Any ideas for getting them to eat anything other than dandelions / nutrobal! C |

One way to stop her is stop giving them to her
I know that sounded rude but really its the only way, dandlions are ok once a week but no more than that. I would start giving other weeds and flowers are popular with horsfields, mine do like petunia, pansy and nasturtiums. For a day try grated butternut squash my lot love it and you may get their taste buds going to try other things, just stick at it and it will work, horsfields won't starve, believe me

i had a hermans last year that only ate tomato and cucumber when he came to me.i weened him off them by offering other weeds and flowers with cucumber juice poured on it so it smelt familiar. He now munches anything you put in front of him....it does take time though
