Open Mouthed Breathing
Hello all!
I noticed this morning that my Horsefield's Tortoise had slightly blocked nasal passages, and was doing open mouthed breathing. I've had him for 5 months and have had no problems at all. Will it clear? Happy Easter to you all! LonesomeGeorge Last edited by LonesomeGeorge; 20-04-2014 at 12:08 PM. |

Open mouth breathing is associated with lower respiratory infection, ofcourse if his nares are blocked then he will breath through his mouth x

One of mine had a blocked nare once, it looked like a small ball of earth in it. I tried bathing her in the hope she would snort it out but she wouldnt drink, so then i tried quickly pushing a leaf towards her face to see if drawing in quickly would dislodge it, that didnt work either! so I picked her nose with a cocktail stick, which I would say is very tricky and her head needs to be held totally still by someone else, I wouldnt really recommend it if you are at all hesitant but as I could see that it was possible to hook behind the ball of earth I did it and it worked ok.

I think something got in his nose. Cleared up in hours funnily enough!
