Default I have a duck egg!

I woke up this morning to find two ducks in my garden. The female layed an egg on the grass, then they both flew off. By the time i picked the egg up it was cold. I`ve put it on damp tissue paper in the airing cupboard.

Have i done the right thing? Do you think it will hatch? Or should i just throw it away?

Please help as i dont have a clue what to do!

Thankyou all in advance

I doubt it will hatch in the airing cupboard but it is possible (some tortoise eggs have been known to do so).

I do would discard of it rather than keeping it warm - even if it did hatch ducks are a big commitment and it wouldnt be fair on the bird.

Thankyou for your helpful replies.

The link was really useful, i didn`t really look closely into the rearing of a duck!

The egg is now in the bin ...... without meaning to sound heartless, phew problem sorted

We found a duckling that looked a day old and took it to our local wildlife rescue centre. It is now a stunning adult Mallard and doing really well, flying free and still returns to the rescue centre when it wants.

Why don't you just fry it up?

You have done the right thing...it wouldn't have hatched. Duck eggs need a specific temp, humidity and need to be turned.
My dad breeds ducks and has an incubator that is specifically made to do all this x
