Biting stones etc

Hi, is it normal for torts to bite stones? Pickles bit all the stones in his table when I first put him in there, and has done the same in his new outdoor garden today. He also tried biting the concrete when he was exploring the front garden yesterday. He's got a cuttlefish which he chews a lot too.

Do you think he's just testing everything to see what's edible? Or is he lacking something?

Flo my Horsfield's does exactly the same, I think they are just fascinated by stones and are quite inquisitive little things

It's definitely not a sign that Pickles is lacking anything

try putting some edible things around such as lumps of natural chalk and blocks of limestone flour, the blocks are made by dampening the flour and forming into shapes them letting dry. Both are pure calcium and the flour can be bought in a big tub from any horse feed shop or smaller amounts on ebay or some pet shops, the cheapest way is the tub from a horse feed shop . There's no limit as to what can be eaten/chewed and the tort will naturally stop when its had enough or not touch them at all.

Thanks for the tip! I'll pop into the country store next time I'm passing to see about some limestone

Has anyone used the tortoise blocks? (I think they were zoo med make) Look like something he's enjoy chomping on.
