my point was that I'm sure the owners had a genuine reason which is of no one elses concern, I'm also sure they are gutted I would have been had someone stole our car while we went to get a cup of tea. We also exchanged money in the car park which I'm sure got a few funny looks, exchanging something from the boot always looks a bit 'iffy. Many breeders only meet buyers in a car park and might have several youngsters/adults in their car, I hope the torts were chipped and they get them back also that the theives weren't just joy riders and dump the car somewhere without knowing the torts were in the boot. I didn't see the reg number in the link but would have thought the finding of a poss dumped car with 2 unknown animals in the boot was important enough to warrant giving out the number. Lincs is such a 'isolated' place there's many places to dump a car and it not be seen, if it was kids they'd probably not even bother to look in the boot.

It wasn't the fact the torts were in the boot, it was that they were hibernating in there. I didn't know people sold them whilst in hibernation. I just had this vision of the torts in their box sound asleep and then being shoved over to make way for the weekly shop. Just seemed odd they way I interpreted it.

I hope they find them. If it was stolen for the car then they may not be interested in the contents of the boot.

They had about a week left of their wind down, just to 'prove' that there are reasons for having torts in your car. I also had 17 eggs the year before last as we were in the process of moving house, plus the two adults and some hatchlings who'd already hatched!. Enquire out of curiosity but don't judge!.
I often have torts in my car too ann, they are usually boxed & strapped in (I know im sad!) I have collected them & needed the loo on the motorway or on visits to my vets which is a long drive, if im early I sometimes pop into the shop next door but I always pop the box into one of those hessian shopping bags & take them with me. I definately wouldnt be happy leaving my torts in the car, even for a short time, unless I could see the car at all times.

when we had to move one of my hibernating hermans was moved during hibernation, well wrapped up to keep cold and put straight into the fridge at the new house, not ideal but he was fine and didn't wake at all. To be honest we were probably silly to go for a cup of tea in Blackpool but the torts were in the boot and the car park full up so the idea that someone would take the car never occured to us and having driven several hours we were desperate for a cuppa. I suppose its no different than someone leaving a dog in the car when they pop into a shop and at this time of year I'm sure many owners do just that. A small dog in the back asleep might not be noticed either, we've had all manner of animals in the car from wild life/pets to even a dead foal once that I was taking to the vets for a postmortem, not mine but for the owner who I worked for at the time, now that wasn't nice. Our hibernation box for the adults was about 4ft long so wouldn't have fitted in a bag, but they were out of site in the boot and we don't have a see in boot, if thats the wording, its a escort with a proper boot.
