Default Tortoise theft in Kent

22 September 2010 - Thieves stole a pair of tortoises from a garden shed during a crime spree in a Kent village.

The 30-year-old animals, belonging to a 78-year-old woman, were taken from a shed in Woodchurch Road, Shadoxhurst.

Officers have advised residents to be "extra security conscious" following the eight thefts in the early hours of Monday.

Oh dear very worrying, just up the road from me. I think I'll move mine from the conservatory into the main house for a bit more security. Thanks for the info and I hope they get them back soon.

Oh stories like that are so sad. That poor owner - I would be heartbroken. I hope she gets them back.

Sadly thefts of tortoises appear to be far more common and recently the Kent area in particular have reported a higher volume of thefts. It is very sad for the tortoise(s) and the owner(s). But where are they going? If they are sold on /sold to order where are they going and how are they being sold - as people like us who are interested in them never get offered one to report it etc. This is the worst thing about owning these wonderful guys - the risk of theft. I feel privileged to have spent many years around them / owning them, but to have them stolen ... I often wonder if I would throw it all in and concentrate on the cats.

Tortoise theft is so horrible I think the worst part would be not knowing where your tort had gone, what it was eating and what the thieves were planning on doing with it. I would hate for one of mine to be stolen. Fingers crossed for the 78 year old woman
