That's not quite correct because the ingredients for 'Baby' are not the same as 'cobs.'

See the Tortoise Lady site here for a breakdown that shows the differences in nutrient values of the different products:

It's also worth checking out the Agrobs site (that's the people that make pre alpin products)

I haven't tried grinding up the coarse pre aplin into finer bits and really ought to do that because if the torts like it as much as they do the Baby product it would be well worth it.

Over xmas I'll have time to try this out.

certainly saves some money and they can't pick it out and leave it so easily, a food processor will do it if you don't have a grinder, it also fits in a container better.

I have tried mine with pre alpin in the past, even brought a big sack from Germany, they all turned up their noses. It would get left dry out, walked all over the soil in t
able/ greenhouses but after winding my female margies down 3 have suddenly decided they are gravid!! Its been so unseasonably warm here. Anyway I have decided to keep these up + a couple of underweight and some new ones in quarantine. Having not been fed for a few weeks I decided this would be the best time to try again! And theyre all eating it!! It does make a mess ive put it in low big plastic saucers on a large plastic mat to try and catch the mess.

Dont know if your aware but pre.alpin is available in the UK now at much more reasonable prices from a UK supplier. I can probably dig out details, if anyone wants them.

Yes we can buy it from the SW shop and the Tortoise Lady as well as other places. It's hunger that gets them eating it but after a while they recognise that it is food.

Depending what kind of set-up you have it might not be necessary to remove the dried leftovers. It's just dried out stalks and leaves after all.

This is the UK supplier of pre alpin. A lot of tort keepers have been using the equine weisencobs for a few years now as it works out a great deal cheaper ( I think the large sack, which is about 18lb/KG cant remember which now! Is only £11 carriage I think about £7) They also supply all the Testudo
