Question Breed Please??

Found my tortoise a little while back in the middle of nowhere (no houses in sight). After giving him some basic care and affection he got much more friendly and healthy but still got no clue what breed he is. And any rough age estimate would be appreciated He's around 6 inches or so along the bottom shell and is definitely male.
I was leaning towards Horsefield.

He is a very old Hermanns tortoise, Testudo hermanni boettgeri He's probably between 50 and 70 years old.

He is probably someone's very much loved pet. Have you put signs up saying "Tortoise Found", contacted local vets, police, national pet rescue registers etc? Just the bare minimum of information should be put out initially as you may well get unscrupulous people trying to claim he is theirs with no proof etc.

A visit to a vet will confirm if he is micro chipped so that the owner can be found.

Agree with Dan, he's a lovely old THB , beautiful, and probably someone's much loved pet. I would be looking for the owner.

Oh yes, I'd be devastated if I lost mine, I'd try everything to find the owner. x

Someone is devastated he's missing. Hope you can find that person with asking locally. Don't give too many details or you will attract unwanted attention, just say tortoise found, contact me with details. He's obviously an adored pet.

And we took him to the vets and he wasn't micro chipped but has now been in our name.
Thanks everyone.
