Deformed hatchlings
My ibera had 4 eggs on xmas day, 3 of them were fertile, one of them died half way through incubation, one hatched last monday and its eyes are deformed it has no eye at all on the right side and the left eye does not look right, the last egg pipped on thursday but did nothing after that, so i have just opened it about an hour ago and the poor little thing is really bad, it has no eyes and the only way i can describe its jaw is it looks like a cleft palate, i cant understand what has happened, i kept the temp at a constant 31.5 humidity80%. I have taken pics but cant post them, i cant even put them on my profile. I just need advice on what i should do, i feel so sorry for the poor little mites.

This does happen once in a while. It's not temperature related, but genetic. If the one with one eye has a functioning mouth, it may be fine and be able to eat on it's own. The other one with the no eyes and the deformed beak (I'm sure it looks like a parrots beak) will not make it. If it's still alive tomorrow morning, than the best thing to do would be to place it in the freezer for 24 hours.

This is breaking my heart, the first hatchling has not eaten anything yet but its mouth seems fine.

Please give the hatchling with the eye problems time. Ibera are in general slower than hermanns to begin to eat. Continue to bathe her and give her a week to get going. As to the other one...I dont know enough to advise

Thanks everyone. The first baby is drinking fine but still not eating and i gave the the other a tiny drop with a syringe, i have not got the courage to do anything with the really deformed one, i will have to take him to someone else. What worries me now is will all my females babys be like this from now on, or was this just something that happens, up to now all her babies have been lovely.
