Default 2 new turtles.

got these 2 new turtles the other night, same time as i got my new tort, but i had to travel a bit further to get these, im not exactly sure what species they are, either yellow bellied sliders or perhaps some kind of map turtle, i will get better pics taken later and get them id'd.

if anyone (probably egyptiandan ) can tell the species from these photos, please let me know, if not ill get more taken.

They are gorgeous and look a lot like my eastern river cooter - although as you say, Dan will be able to tell you exactly what they are but in the mean time its fun to guess!

Hi Darren,
You have 2 Florida red bellies, Pseudemys nelsoni. They look great.

Despite the name Red Bellies often don't have red bellies! My female is older and bigger than your two and her plastron is still yellow, I've seen a few with orange plastrons but never actually red.

dan told me that they start off with red bellies as babies, but as they get older there bellies change to more yellow in colour.

these 2 are really fussy eaters, the previous owner was feeding them just chicken slices (the kind you put in a sandwich), so they've never had pellets, or shrimp/krill or any the usual stuff i feed my turtles, so im having to work quite hard at weaning them onto 'normal' food. completely different from the 4 baby turtles ive got - they are gannets and would eat literally anything!!!
