BTW, I think there is a 12% Arcadia strip but it might be a compact, not sure now.

For people wanting to use a strip there is reptisun 10 that I think is strong enough

Its been a long weekend, just build and outside enclosure. So which would you suggest - Arcadia 12% D3 Reptile lamp or Exo Terra Repti Glo 10.0 Tube |

I think those two products are fairly similar in terms of UVB and UVA output. I would suggest using the longest one that will fit in your space. These tubes do not give out a high amount of total light and one of them specifically says it is designed to be used in conjunction with the repltiglo 2 which I think is an admission that there is a need for more broad spectrum light. Of course you might have natural light coming through windows which does help.

I admit, perhaps the % was too little but i also remember reading somewhere that too high can cause problems. I am not sure where I read this as we are talking nearly a year ago. It could have been that UV guide website. So I went for something which was safe. In hindsight, maybe I should have gone for something with a higher percentage... |

Which ever bulb you get Ross should be ok - out of the ones you put. I would get a nice halogen flood to go with it. Nice little set up then.
Well...thats just my opinion. xx |

I havenet seen much on the UVA output of various tubes except on page 6 of this:
http://www.reptilesdownunder.com/ima...ghtuvlight.pdf It only covers the reptisun 2.0 and 5.0 but the UVA readings at the "usual" distances of 12" are minimal. I use Reptisun 2.0 because they are bright, and was told they "fill out the gaps in the light spectrum left by Mercury Vapour lamps and halogens. They do add a nice ambient light but I would not depend on them as a UVB source for a tortoise personally. At any sort of range, the UVb measurements are very low, for a small (12-18 inch) tube I reckon the tube would need to be 6 inches from the tortoise to be of any use as a UVB source. Tubes do have their place though, as above, filling the spectrum. |

I have a repti sun 2.0 strip now Dave as well, for the same reasons - mainly for the light aspect. I am aware that it doesnt contain UVB.
I think that the arcadia ones that ross was talking about above do, well I think my old one did - i couldnt have been silly enough to buy something with just UVA...i certainly hope not. I had the arcadia D3 5% uva/uvb strip. But have a reptisun 2.0 36" strip now, just for light purposes. xx |
