Do not let them try to sell you any sexed animals... it is totally impossible to sex an Aldabra under 400lbs by sight. Even at that size a 'female' can turn out to be a male.
The Surgery to determine gender is extremely minimal and extremly safe dispite those that don't have the connections or are willing to spend the money tell you.

How did Aldabras get to be CITES III? I thought all tortoises were CITES II or I.

As usual Ed you're wrong.
All torts in EU are either Annex A, or Annex B Annex B still require an import permit, and in most annex B torts they still need to be captive bred. Horsfield for example, EU won't issue import permit for wild caught Horsfields. |

I guess I need to keep up... before 2003... they were non CITES.
Hey... thanks Danny. Needless to say... movement of the tortoises throughout the world is not a problem.

One of these days the UK will make a decision to join the world one side or the other...
Annex... is a UK thing... not an EU thing. Most of the real world follows CITES and local laws. I guess you can call the Annex thing a local law. Needless to say... the Aldabra tortoise can easily be moved around the world form any country. Aldabra is not a country and that is a protected area... I can't think of the word... I want to say world trust... Oh... you are right in that I was wrong. It appears that the status was changed in 2003... as Danny was so nice to point out. Note... I've only been importing them into the US for going on 11 years.

Wrong again Ed, the Annex thing is a EU rule, as the EU has increased the protection offered to most Native species with in the EU, from what would be Cites 2, to Annex A under EU rules. And the EU offer greater protection than other countries to a lot of other tortoise species as well, the point about horsfields being a case in point, not allowing wild caught tortoises to be imported. Thats not a UK rule, but an EU rule.

Ok... I'm wrong and the specifics. I don't have to deal with the EU, the UK or antagonistic people.
I have imported them to and from the US without a problem. My friend has imported them throughout the world without a problem. The point is that they can easily be legally shipped throughout the world... for you anal retentive... where they can be legally imported. Quote:

No one ever said they couldn't be legally imported into the UK. You were the one being anal retentive, and giving out misinformation, which is something you abhor. Just trying to make sure people are aware of the facts, and correct facts, not just opinion.
