if u want a bigger but easier tortoise go for something like a red foot or a marginated both will need alot of space but would be good for beginners

Basically I'd do your research on each species youre interested in and decide for yourself.... cos we're probs mostly biased lol.

lol I guessed you would all be biased - maybe I should start a thread asking for the pros/cons for each type from a keepers point of view.

Once again - thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to getting a tort, wanted one of my own for years so was quite an easy decision really

Hi I have 3 Horsefields and love em to bits, however i am now looking to get a couple of IBERAS as I have been reliably informed (on here) that they are more interactive and more outgoing in thier nature. Horsefields on the whole do tend to hide away an awful lot.
I also believe Iberas are a good starter tort as the care is the same as for Horsefields.
this is just my oppinion
gud luk

Hi & welcome
As others have said I would read up on appealing species, rule out any you definately dont want, then keep an open mind & see whats available.

I guess you will need to see whats available in your area (depends how far your prepared to travel, there are reptile couriers about they cost about £30/£40 & some are very good, get a recomended one) You could set your heart on a particular species & not be able to get one, as certain species are harder to come by, particularly females.

Is it a baby or older tort your looking for?

Well I have a leopard tortoise.

They are a large species but I love him all the same.

They can be fussy eaters and are prone to RNS (Runny Nose Syndrome)

He is gorgeous and makes a very good indoor door stop :lol;
