Total newbie here!
In fact, I'm not just a newbie tortoise owner, I'm a newbie pre-owner, hoping to collect my first hatchling in a couple of months (she's 19 days old, and I am waiting for another to hatch!)
I'm currently wading through the pages and pages of fantastic info on here, the tortoise trust's website and the TPG's website, amongst others - planning ahead, so I get everything right for the new arrivals. I stumbled upon this website when browsing ebay for tortoise-friendly seeds to grow my own food for them! The new arrivals are Hermanni Boettgeris and will be called Luna (moon goddess) and Iris (rainbow goddess) in honour of my beautiful favourite horse Star, who I lost in a freak accident a fortnight ago and who's insurance money will be enabling me to fulfil a long term dream of becoming a tort-owner. I'm very excited, if slightly nervous about doing it all right - I've had horses, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters myself and worked with cows, sheep, goats, pigs, mice, rats and birds... but tortoises are a new experience entirely! |

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! Of course it will take time to get over my special girl, but I am sure that the torts will definitely take up a large part of my heart very quickly!
