My daughter is coming along. I would probably say 'sensible' child as there will be a lot of water and a deep pond. There will (should!) be a machine to drain the pond and remove the sludge but still the sides will be deep when empty. Probably 7 or 8 years, but not sure. I am sure there would be land work for children to do - might be moving terrapins, ducks or raking weeds away, being in the photo for the paper, bringing out cold drinks or handing us a dry towel!

Come on SW ..... put your name down, enjoy the fun and help these little guys who have to be moved to make way for the Olympic Games project. They have a deadline and we can make it if we all pull together!

A terrific SW project and gathering. Who else is coming!

I dont know a date until the Council give us a date for when they can drain the pond and sludge out with their dredger. We are chasing them for a date this week and I will let you know. I am also checking out accommodation, but this location is very rural.

I would like to give this thread a MASSIVE bump!

I volunteer at beaver water world as they do a brilliant job for the massive amount of dumped and mistreated reptiles that otherwise wouldnt be with us. Unfortunately unwanted terrapins are a massive problem as they are bought as "cheaper tortoises" but when people realise the space they need and mess they make they are just dumped into the wild.

I for one will be there both days and I think its great that people are willing to travel long distances to sought all these guys a new home. Im sure it will be a great laugh and I want to urge as many people as possible to come to join in the fun, the more the merrier eh!?!

Travel to get there isnt difficult by public transport... you can get a fast train from central london to bromley south; then the 246 bus to biggin hill then the 464 bus to the reptile zoo in tatsfield.

As for camping there are fields a plenty so i dont think that will be a problem.. Im sure Wendy will have more info on that.

And there is a travellodge 8 miles away (25 mins drive max) in Caterham that i know of.. Im sure Wendy will more info on that too

So come on everyone! It will be a great weekend and with a big group of us we can make a massive difference for this charity and give these poor terrapins a fresh start

Sounds like a good project to support, and in this year, the twenty fifth year of the TMNT, a very worthy cause.
Please let us know dates ASAP, and I will try to get there.

Have found a quiet field, horses as neighbours and very rural with pub down the road (and toilet on site). So that's the tent lot sorted out!

Have posted the details of the nearest Travelodge which is 6.5 miles away .... so next lot of people sorted!

Some good ol' fashioned grafting in aid of charity followed by a singsong around the barbie! *excited face*
