Secret World Tortoise & Hedghog Weekend 2009
Hi,
Secret World in somerset are having a Tortoise & Hedghog Weekend on July 25th & 26th between 10am - 4pm. There is no admission charge, although they are asking for a donation. I was wondering if anyone was planning on going to this? I personally only live 20mins away from Secret World, but have never been to one of these days before. Many Thanks Sarah |

Secret World do great work in caring for and rehabilitating wildlife and struggle for funds these open weekends really help as these are now the only times they are open to the public.
The hedgehog and tortoise weekend is always good with various tortoise exhibits and goods to buy from local members of the BCG. Secret World have a few tortoises of their own as well as a large terrapin display and you can see badgers in an artificial sett as well as foxes who cannot be released back into the wild for various reasons. It is a good opportunity to meet fellow tortoise people as well as helping a very worthy organisation. Mary |

Indeed a great opportunity to see a very nice set up run by extremely dedicated people. Pauline Kidner, was seen last night on Spring Watch, with her annual chore of rearing orphaned Badgers. A task which she has undertaken for very many years.
The British Chelonia Group RETEC, has Red Eared Terrapins in very suitable facilities showing these large Slider Turtles, in the sort of accommodation, that they really require, and of course, with the South West region of the BCG's assistance, a great opportunity to meet and learn more about Chelonia. |

I went to last year's event and will be going this year too.
The BCG run the tortoise section. Sue from BCG South West brings Eric the giant sulcata along and he has a nice big fenced off area to run around. You can even go into the enclosure to say hi to eric, he doesn't stay still for very long though
