Naughty naughty Ed, are you trying to alienate Tortoise Friends members that put a lot of hard work in producing their calendar, where all the proceeds go to very worthwhile causes, I send many customers to the shelled warriors shop on ebay which I am sure goes towards subsidising this group.
Oh and by the way it's not a competition on TF, it comes down to good quality photo's that are interesting or show the species well,
You don't change do you <g>
Take care

Actually the idea came from a US group called Turtle Times which has been doing that for quite a few years now. I'm not even allowed on 'tortoise friends'(?). That didn't even cross my mind until you just mentioned it. Also... there are many groups that use this idea. It is far from original.

...and how do I alienate a group that has done such a wonderful job of doing just that to me?

Oh... another thing... by making it a competition the group is assured to get the best photos in an unbiased and objective manner... not to mention that it adds to the fun.

I've had some very nice comments about the posterier of my new tortoise and everyone loves a tortoise photo. How about having a monthly photo competition focusing on one aspect of a tortoise? You could do it like Butlins, bonny baby, rear of the year, lovely legs(?) etc..and run a poll like the xmas competition?

Ok, I have just read this thread and I know it's a little dated, but has got me thinking....

What srt of comps have already been done in the past?! What worked and what didn't?

I liked the idea of the caption one... I wish I was here for that?! I will start thinking about potential comps... If that's ok with Sarah and Mods of course?!
