Yes, just about, right in the centre of his eye, my old Herman Sammy has very poor sight ,he has for years , but he manages to find his way around quite well, their sense of smell is very good and I think he relies on it a lot , and he walks around the edge of his enclosure a lot and round his box feeling his way with his shell,so I'm sure Grandad will adapt if it gets worse.

Hes not walking into things that ive noticed. He comes charging over for food when he sees me so i think he can see ok. Someone said on another thread that ive put this on.... " I wonder was he ever left to hibernate outside as they can get frost damage which can damage the eyes. The eyes will recover some sight over the years. Does he walk into things? You always have to be extremely careful with hibernation temps if this happens. "
Anyone else heard of this? |

They can get frost damage if left to hibernate at too low a temperature Some sight can be regained with time & good care I believe.
I have Alberta who is totally blind & she manages just fine. She has never bumped into things & the only problem I have ever had with her is if I completely change her area ie from inside to outside enclosure, & then she will occasionally turn in circles, but she eats independantly & basks & copes fine. As im sure grandad wil be |
