I think you are right Alan. It was definitely digitalis as I had only known them as foxgloves and there was a panic in the house as a child. Also a tree beginning with L I think was poisonous and my dad chopped it down. Deadly nightshade is that another one?
I loved the whole don't pick dandelions you will wet the bed !!! of course they are a big diuretic in drug manufacturing which is why people wet the bed ! brilliant UK weeds !

Think the one beginning with L could be Laburnum and goodness they look spectacular this year just admire them from afar.

Its the leaves of fox gloves that makes digoxin. A drug to slow and steady the heart.
It is the laburnum seeds that are poisonous. Unfortunately they are attractive and children just love to eat them! Fortunately enforced vomiting does the trick and usually solves the problem! Yes I remember the one about dandelions and wetting the bed, but didn't realise they were a diuretic.

Thanks Sandy. I sowed Lavatera seeds last year but they didn’t really do much, plus in a completely different area to where this popped up. Hopefully a few more ‘windblown’ seeds will pop up elsewhere.
My torts all love it too.
