Hello Everyone, Were new!
Hello!
Just thought id introduce myself, I'm Nicola! And this is my (tortilla) Chip; Tortilla Chip is a Leopard Tortoise (obviously) and i have been told hes about 5 years old. Hes 170mm and im not too sure about his weight just yet. I brought Chip home at the weekend so ive only had him 2 days. Hes currently living in a vivarium but we are building a large indoor/outdoor enclosure for him. We were told by the breeder to put him in a vivarium however have since found out that this is no good for him. Also was told to feed him on bagged rocket salad from Morrisons so were currently trying to change this to get him on weeds but its proving to be harder that we thought, hes not eating or drinking now. I have a small plot in the viv to tempt Chip in to eating, i have geraniums, radish and rocket growing in there which will slowly be replaced with weeds but hes not eating them yet so fingers crossed hell start to eat when hes settled. Also got some watercress in there with D3 on with a small piece of tomato to attempt to get him slightly interested. We are currently in search of a reptile vet in our area, were in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. We are aware of one in leeds but i dont drive so its a pain getting there, especially with my tortilla (tortoise) so any local reccomendations would be much apreciated. We are also looking at pet insurance, the only company i have found is Exotic Direct, does anyone know of anywhere else that will insure my tortilla? Well thats us! Nice to meet you xx ( Any advice is much apreciated!!! ) |

lush tortoise you have there! dont give up with teh feeding, it will take time... try mixing the weeds with whatever rubbish it previously had... it worked for my newest... great to hear you have plans to get the poor fella out of the vivarium. enjoy your stay, you'll learn loads within your first week!! xx |

Hi and welcome from me! Gorgeous leopard!
Many people have opened saving accounts instead using insurance company as I've heard it doesn't cover everything and can be a bit tricky when vet bills need to pay.

Hello everyone, thank you for the warm welcome.
Slight panic this morning, noticed that the heat lamp had been turned off. Ahhhh!! Viv was too cold but Chip didn't seem to notice luckly. He has started eating though, gave him some cucumber with his food this morning and hes eating it now so thats a good start. I mentioned the savings account to my H2B but he didnt think it was a good idea because he said it would end up being spent (by him not me), which is why he doesn't have access to the wedding account lo. Think i will contact my bank though and see if i can get an online saver account set up. Is there anyone from our area that can recommend a good vet, i'm eager to get him registered somewhere. Thanks everyone xx |
