Yolk Sack
Andrew's little girl still has her yolk sack attached. It's rock hard, black and very firmly attached.
It just confuses me as she's the older of the two. Mine is almost completely healed. Is it likely to cause her any problems leaving it alone to, I presume, drop off on its own? I don't want it to become infected if she catches it on something.. Or is my first visit to Hannah coming sooner than expected? New Tort mum worrying already lol Incase it might help:

If she were mine I would cover the sac with micro pore tape. Then let nature take its course,
it will drop off eventually.

I am surprised at a hatchling being sold with the egg sac still attached.

Hi Sandy, thanks for the advice.
Admittedly I thought it was poo stuck when we brought them home but it didn't come off in the bath so I looked closer.

There should not be anything attached underneath. Where did you get it from - I would ask the breeder if it was there when they sold it to you.

No offence, but I was there when he sold them to me. As I said above, I thought it was poo stuck to her shell, nothing more. I only noticed since bathing her that it is infact the remains of the yolk sack.
There's a reason I didn't ask on here until now, only elsewhere.

Th yolk sac usually absorbs into the shell as it closes up. What substrate was it on? Could it be a piece of foreign matter that got lodged as it closed up. If so it needs to be removed in case it gets infected I would have thought.

They were on towel, as the tlady says, for hatchlings. They are kept on that for two weeks and then moved onto soil/sand in their greenhouse with outdoor access 24/7.

It does look like the remainder of the yolk sack Sue. If you look at my picture of my Golden greek, that little bit is probably what it is. A breeder should know better then to let that dry out. It was taken and put on paper towels to soon. I put all my hatchling in a plastic container in the incubator with vasoline smeared on the bottom. I leave them there until all trace of the sack is gone.
Letting it dry like that could have gotten the hatchling in a lot of trouble. I've seen hatchling that became attached to paper and pull out internal organs from trying to go somewhere. Might want to give him my suggestions so this doesn't happen in the future. Danny

I did realise it was the yolk sack but wow. Thanks for the infomation Dan but my gods you scared me! The newly hatched babies are kept in a plastic ice-cream tub like container in the incubator until the sack has completely gone - there was still one in there while we weer there and he checked her and showed us, explaining that they can't come out until that's gone. He must have missed her while checking them - she was part of a large clutch that hatched almost together.
I'll e-mail him and explain, show him the picture etc. What can I do for her Dan?
