If ever I have a baby hatch with yolk sac, I leave them in the incubator sitting on damp sterile cotton wool until it has been absorbed. The same if a bit of egg shell is stuck to it. The humidity keeps it from sticking

Surely then there's a chance that the cotton can be absorbed with it?

But what can I do for her now? Bathe her for longer in warm water and hope it softens and comes away? Take her to a vet? A decisive answer would help instead of blaming the breeder

No not if it is very damp - never had this problem. It was not just me who mentioned the breeder. You asked a question - I just replied with my thoughts. As my torts are never left with yolk sacs I have no idea what you do now

Maybe a vet will reply to you.

I was only asking about the cotton and I didn't say it was you. Please don't assume I'm having a go at you, I'm just worried about my tort. Maybe I can get in touch with Hannah.

Hi Ajay,
No blaming here

You can keep him on paper towels for a bit and cover what's left of the sack with vasoline. This will soften it and help it fall off. Don't do any cutting, pulling or picking unless it's already loose. Sorry I scared you

didn't mean to do that.

Sorry people, bit of a shock and panic this early on

Oh I'd never pull at it myself, after the initial investigation I've just left her alone. She can't feel comfortable lying on her back wiggling her legs while I stare at her undercarraige lol

Is vaseline the best to use on her?

Do we think her plastron will be healed up underneath it? It's no problem if it isn't, I'm assuming keep her on a cleaner substrate until it does heal..

Sorry again Sue, calming down, feeling a bit silly and just worried for her

No problem. If you have any betadine then you colud use it diluted 1:10 to bathe it daily. I assume it will drop off just like dead shell does after this treatment. This IS only an assump[tion though so keep a close eye on it for any changes in colour, texture etc
