Incidentally, at the meeting where hatchling microchipping was discussed the speaker from the CITES team mentioned that CITES regulations state that any animal sold as captive bred has to be the offspring of captive bred (F1) parents. Something I wasn't aware of.

Hi EJ i had not heard of it happening either, the dog went in for its annual inoculation and the vet allways scans to check the dogs temperature before going ahead. Only last year the reader could not find the chip, they scanned everywhere and it just did not register. The vet knew he had one as they had implanted it, he did say that he has had this happen before. I wondered if it was because it reads the dogs temperature as well and maybe this caused the fail. The dog is only 4 years old so i do not think it was the age of the chip, anyway the new one is working fine.

The thing that concerns me also is at the moment providing your only using one male you only pay one £25 for all hatchlings in your group , so does that mean on top of the micro chip costs we will have to pay for each and every a10 licence at £25 each , at the moment if say you breed 10 from a group you pay £25 full stop, if this comes in you will have the cost of 10 micro chips say the vet charges £20 each thats £200 then theres the a10 licences at £25 each so thats another £250 .
total now for 10 ....................£25 total cost then for 10 ............£450, that works out at £45 each. I can see if that does happen i for one will be giving mine away with a £200 tortoise table. |
