Most keepers would say, if you got your new tortoise in August, then you wouldnt hibernate.
Before that you would have plenty of time to get used to the new tort, and them to your routine. Or if the tortoise had some sort of illness, then you wouldnt hibernate them.

the large one weighs 144g, and my 2 small ones are 44g and 55g

okay dokay - so does that mean that weight is not that much of an issue then? (obviously with in reason) ##when is the best time time to start reducing his heat / day light hours and food in take?

Weight is not an issue, provided for their size they are not underweight.
In the wild they hibernate from year one. They have survived for millions of years this way, so for them they must be doing something right<g>. When tend to put what we think onto them. If its small it must be fragile. But they are really strong charactors.

okay i have weight and measured Alfie today, he has changed quite a bit since i first got him -
10 cm and 240g thanks Fi

sorry i did not see the post before with the links - one of the ones you posted is one of the ones i already read which suggests i you have not had your tort a year you should think about not hibernating them.

Right, how do i put this...
i know that i must be getting on peoples nerves about this topic, but i would be greatful if someone would help me by breaking down in to steps what needs to be done for hibernation etc as i have said before, i am getting confussed about all the info even on the links you guys have been kind enough to tell me about. thanks fi
