Tortoise Behavior.
Hi,
I have three tortoises two females and one male is it natural for the male to keep going after the females for sex 18 hours a day, i have a very large outside run and I have moved him so the females get some peace they are all hermann please advise if this is natural.Tortoise10 |

I am no expert but i am sure others will agree that some male torts can be very amerous and won't leave the females alone. So you should always have the room to seperate the male from the female because they can become very stressed/ill if they have to deal with a m,ale which won;t leave them alone. Yes this is natural behavior for them!!

In the wild they are generally solitary animals. When males come into contact with a breeding age female, shall we say they make the most of it... and will relentlessly pursue her. In the wild though, the female can usually escape at some point. However in an enclosed pen this is difficult and it can get a bit too much. You've done the correct thing by removing the male. Some will happily co-habit, but others will be constantly on the 'pull'
