Default trip to the vets for worms?

hey there everybody! desperate for some help and advice here.

for the past 2 weeks or so, my 4 year old horsefield has been a bit sluggish and off his food.
I regularly examine his stool, he usually does a big dump when he's in the bath. never noticed anything out of the ordinary.

today out in the garden, he passed a clump of parasites/ worms/ white things, roughly about 2mm long and 0.5 mm girth each. sort of an off white colour. he then urinated, but didn't poo, even during/ after a bath.

ive received mixed messages so far, as per usual with tortoises.

do i take him to the vets? or attempt to treat him at home first?

ill deffinatley be getting stool counts performed in future

much apreciated

you can use panacur paste if you can work out the dosage. I would send a stool sample to wormcount.com. it cost 6.50 and once you send a sample they send the results by e mail usually by tea time the next day. You will know what you are dealing with then. If you put your tort in a bath and place it under the spotlight it encourages him to expel, I would do this once I start the treatment and I would do it every bath time just to try and avoid him doing the deed in his table and re-infecting himself.

Personnally? If I'd seen evidence of parasites I'd worm him myself and then get a sample tested after a course of treatment, just to make sure they're gone

i agree and thats what i did with my tort, and after treatment the worrm count came back all clear

panacur paste worked for me... put it on a bit of cucumber or some thing you know your tort will not refuse
