An actor ... hmm dont thimk so Kelly.
Imho 4 adults in such a size enclosure could/would be stressed and therefor easily catch sickness / deseases which could cause death. Thats why I asked "Survive ?" . Maybe. Not really rocket science nor big time movie theme. But then again... what do I know ...Amen.

there's a big difference in torts or any animal/bird being able to 'survive' in a small enclosure and living a happy satisfying life, just because they can doesn't mean they should or its right!. This reason is why I feel that owners should know when enough is enough as to the amount of animals they have, we wouldn't want to live in a cupboard so why should they live in the equivalent just because they can't say they are unhappy.

Thanks for all the opinions guys, much appreciated
Like i say its only an idea about adding another tort. Not now, but in the future MAYBE I would honestly LOVE to allow my tortoises to have my whole garden but being honest its just no fessable, im not being selfish, but i have dogs etc etc. I would never ever deny my torts or any of my animals for the matter, the space and freedom they deserve! I asked this question so i could have a rough idea of the bare minimum for this amount of animals Much appreciated everyone *Loving the banter everyone btw*

No... thrive... breed and lead a normal life. Is 10 x 10 an ideal enclosure for 4 Hermanns?... It could be if furnished properly.
They can survive for many years in a 2 x 4 foot enclosure.

This wouldn't be the case if you truely knew the biology and the needs of the animals.
I was going to say your advice is your opinion and really does not reflect the actual needs of the tortoises but then I just realized... you didn't offer any input or advice for the OP. Quote:

'happy' is a very relative term when it comes to reptiles. They are 'happy' when all of their biological needs are met.
A big problem with this line of thought is anthropomorphizing. Quote:

Now you can hide under the covers thinking 'make them go away'.
10 x 10 foot is not even a minimum but that's as small as I'd go outdoors. Indoors for the cold weather I'd go 2 x 8 foot. Another odd point is that I don't see where it is mentioned what race of Hermanns you are talking about. I'm guessing it is TBH which is the smaller race. It's wierd that nobody addressed this. Don't let the chelonian freaks freak you out. Quote:

hmmm well my ibera enclosure is 1/3 acre , tbh 30ft by 20ft isn't that big for 4 adult tortoise's , like any other animal they need to be stimulated by there surrounding's not to mention the increased risk of parasite build up through over grazing a small area .

Well... aren't you special. 1/3 acre... that is impressive... all year? How do you collect... hell... how do you find the eggs that they produce?
I totally agree that the smaller the area is the more dilegent the keeper has to be. I can only give my Aldabras 1/2 acre and that they have to share with my Redfoots and Leopards. One other point... what you are able to provide and what will meet their needs are 2 totally different things. Also... Iberas are a little bit bigger than Hermanns. Quote:
