This morning I couldn't open the gates at 0700 as they were frozen.
5 degrees in the tort house - Bertie has taken himself back into the hibernation chamber and Beatrice has stayed in their usual area where they were winding down. I put the ceramic lamp on away from Beatrice, so she could choose to go under if she was awake enough., but it also keeps temp above freezing. However, she has not moved so getting time to move her I think. Will be checking later. Temperature due to drop further tonight.

I use the fridge method Jan and find that my hermanns don't dig down much. I do use really deep containers and substrate to make it possible for them to go down but for whatever reason they don't do so much at all. Sometimes I put extra substrate on top of them in the belief that they would lose less moisture that way.
