Default Indoor enclosure am I doing anything wrong

Here is the torts enclosure

and another view

temp under lamp is off the scale so 40+ by door to hide are 20 degs.

They are spending a lot of time like this (normally the lid is on

coming out occasionally - not been out today.

I'm thinking of the following

swapping the heat lamp to other end so it is nearer door to hide

and / or taking lid off the hide

and / or adding a normal bulb to add more light.

Can you advise me please as currently they are very subdued torts.

How long have you had them, if they are recent then this is to be expected, My own has not come out of the den for two days now as she is just getting used to it all, Im reading this all over the internet peeps torts not active, they must know something we don't lol. They will come out when they are hungry I wouldnt worry about it.
In the wild if it get too hot or two cold torts do bury themselves down and stop being active, you said under your basking lamp its 40 plus I would adjust the lamp and try to get it down to about 31 degrees. Also I would go for a digital thermometer as the ones you have are not as acurate, they give you an idea but not very acurate if you know what I mean.

You need a digital thermometer to check temps are accurate. How long is light on for? Where did they come from? Have they been checked for worms and parasites?

Light goe on 6am goes off 8pm. Both from same place and have been active

They had really high worm counts but have had wormer treatment since was told to wait until end of Sept before rechecking the count.

I would still go with the temperature then you need to raise the basking light and get the temperature down , but I would still try a digital thermometer to double check.

This is the one I bought, you can place the thermometer at the cool end to get your readings then the probe under the lamp for them readings, one thermometer to do the two reading for you http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-FR...#ht_950wt_1186
