My 2 are indoors now with uv and heat at correct temps. but no matter what time i put the lights/heat on they won't get up until lunchtime -ish if at all. this they have done naturally for the last 3 years. so now I put food down and if they don;t get up themselves i get them up every other day and bathe them. then with the temptation of dandelions and pansies they'll eat. I'll keep this up until i start the wind down at the end of october.
So as long as they're healthy and you are putting the heat on I wouldn't worry. It's their own natural body instincts

Might the ones struggling to be kept awake be wild caught? In the wild they can hibernate for up to 8 months can't they?

Can't comment for others, but mine are not wild caught - they are over 2 years old now and came from a very reputable Horsfield breeder. They are still struggling to do anything but sleep. They will not wake up on their own, I have to find them in their tortoise table and get them up under the light. They also won't really eat unless I encourage them to once warmed up. They have been eating quite well though these last few days, once they are encouraged to!! I am not worried about their behaviour as I believe they are naturally winding down. I plan to start the 3-4 week starvation at the beginning of November with them going into the fridge the start of December. I am happy with their weights (I think they now weigh 67g and 58g the last time I weighed them over the weekend).
