Updated pics and opinions on shells?
I last posted my torts when I got my greeks but heres some updated pics. I was hoping for some opinions on the shells. My hermans shell did pyramid quite significantly at first despite the correct temps, cuttle fish, supplements and varied diet but since really getting to grips with this hydration and humidity approach I think I have it under control. I had my greeks from a younger age than my hermans and their shells are better but not totally smooth. I do feel they arn't worsening at all though. I am aiming to get them on a purely weed diet even though theres a good variation.
Olivia and marmalade Brook my dark hermans. Will her pyramiding look any better in the years to come? Thanks Donna |

They will always have little bumps in the middle, even if you manage to make the growth smoother now...
Dorothy, when I first got him, was a little bumpy (i think because he is greedy and will eat anything) and those bumps are still in the middle of his scutes. You can see the bumps in this pic.. And see the smooth new growth in this pic... Im hoping as dorothy gets old, they will wear down a little naturally and become less obvious. but he is handsome so I don't mind really.

the new growth is all the outer lines around each and every one of the scutes........bit like the trunk of a tree............you are aiming for it to be so smooth that the lines are almost invisible to see.
