Obviously they are making an example out of her.. but although I think it was ment as a joke, it's hard to imagine what some words can mean to people.

One of my friends called another friend "Jewish" as an insult, at which point a stranger stood up and asked him if he understood exactly what he was saying, and if he had any sense of the hardship and suffering Jewish people had faced. So something that had started out meaningless had clearly seriously offended someone else. I supose it's the same thing with that word.
