Will the possible baby survived
My mum called me this morning as she'd found a horsfield egg in the tortoises enclosure. She's been acting gravid for a few weeks but just didn't lay. This egg can't have been there for longer than a few hours overnight as she has been checking for eggs. When she found it it was cold. Will the possible embryo have survived a few hours out of the right temperature range. Its now in the uncubator. Anyone experienced this and still got a hatchling?

The egg if fertile should be fine Helen, I know a few keepers that have had sucssesful hatchlings from eggs found after a week or more after laying.

The eggs are probably warm as even though tortoises are described as cold blooded once they've warmed up they can have a body temperature as high as our own. Its possible it was colder than it would normally be as she laid it before her light came on in the morning. I'll be going home in 3ish weeks so hopefully i'll be able to candle the egg and see if there is any development going on.
