Egg damage
Hi, i was away at the weekend and someone decided to "help" me and check the incubator, an accident happened and this was the result. Though i presume there is no chance to save it (it is still alive at the moment), is there any hope, if so what do i do? i have old egg shell and spray on plaster but there is a bit of egg shell that has fallen into it.
Many thanks

So sorry this has happened Alex If it had just broken the shell and not the white membrane, than I'd say it had a good chance. With the way it is (white membrane broken) and the fact it's not that close to hatching it's got a very very very very slim chance of making it.
But we'll try Clean out all the broken shell pieces. Pack the space with petrolium jelly. Find a piece of shell that will cover the whole. Use the liquid skin on the edges and press the piece over the hole. Than use more liquid skin to seal the edges. Never tried anything with an egg this bad, so it will be a learning experience for everyone. Danny

Thanks again. Will let you know how it goes. How developed/ far away from hatching would you say it was?

You could also try using superglue to hold the pieces of shell in place, then put cling film over the broken bits, it should hold everything in place! I find super glue is brilliant with cracks, so it may work. Woth a try and firmer, I would have thought to liquid skin.

What a shame Dont know if cling film would block oxygen? What about a piece of hens egg shell?

Piece of hens egg shell might just do the trick. It would be fairly strong compared to the tortoise egg and allow air in. With the cling film, I wasn't suggesting it all over the egg. You really can't make the sistuation any worse can you, with whatever you do?
