There is a felt like carpeting that the tortoises have a very hard trying to eat if at all. If you go with astroturf I'd suggest brown coloring.

thats a really helpful thread.. thanks! Alex's enclosures have inspired much of what i plan to do further down the line. Picked up my pancake hatchlings from him today, its good to know i've got an experienced keeper on side to advise me along the way and others on here too, lucky me!

He might not know what he is doing but surely has a very good idea considering that is one very difficult species to breed.

This looks super cool! I'm just thinking about how to make a table/housing thing indoors for 2 adult hermanns that I'm adopting. This sort of idea is great! When I've drawn my ideas up I'll post them too! x
