I'm confused
So to answer the original question about Megaray alternative, T Rex Active UV Heat bulb. The 100 watt version. Excellent little bulb so far. |

An alternative to the Megaray would be a candle, at least it would give off some light and heat although like the Megaray, no UVB.
If it came to desperation (which is not far off as I'm only getting a reading of about 60 odds from my bulbs) I would probably get a Solarglo for the reason that it is all they sell in the nearest decent shop (30 miles away) and although not that cheap, it can be taken back if it blows. This continually sending back bulbs at our own cost is just no use at all. I wish they'd hurry up with the new Arcadia bulb |

I would get a nice halogen - say 50/60w and use a good timer on it Ross. I have mine come on in the morning - for when Lily does his main basking and then at about 11.45am it goes off. By then, he is usually in his hide. I then have it come back on again at 5pm - 7pm so he has some nice heat then. He usually heads there after his bath or sometimes before.
Good luck Hey Al - love the quote about the candle. Perhaps it is the best alternative of the lot! i am going to freak out once I get my solarmeter and ......cry at my UV readings!!! PS make sure your holder for your basking or halogen bulb can take the wattage. My holders max is 60w which is why I went to 50w for mine. Didnt want to chance anything else. Probably could do with it being a better holder actually....i shall have to look into this. |
