Hi Steve,

This tortoise is looking a bit sorry for itself its head is very low, and the shell looks quite lumpy to me fromthe angle of the picture.

Was there anything specific wrong with the tortoise you wanted info on, as " is this tortoise ok" is a very general open question without seeing the tortoise or having any backround info on it.

I hope this helps.

Ade

i was told of a THB for sale.. i looked at the advert and did not think much of it

I SENT THIS THANK YOU

unfortunately for me as they are advertised as

''A pair of Herman Tortoises, 5 years with licence, with complete vavarium including thermastat, heat mat, UV bulb and living accessories. Very tame and healthy. Regretable sale. ''

the idea of being brought up in a VIV means to ME... they could have some serious health issues ..

thanks for the lead ...

for all the help you need with your tort try

www.shelledwarriors.co.uk

a great forum with normal tort lovers not breeders or pet shops

thanks again

I GOT THIS IN REPLY

hi, i have a viv for my 2 tortoises BUT they can be perfectly good for tortoises if you have a sheet of wood infront of the viv to stop them from seeing out and getting stressed and maximum ventilation. i only use mine for them too sleep in as i have an outdoor enclosure for them to stay in during the day time (attached). you can get maximum ventilation in a viv by opening the glass doors to the maximum that they will go to. most people with vivs keep tortoises in them for most of the day, vivs can be perfectly safe as long as you have ventilation, security, a sheet of wood infront of it and a comfortale bedding. please view my website. www.freewebs.com/myhermannitortoises .
Regards

I LOOKED AT HIS WEB SITE AND SAW HIS TORTS .. AND I HAD WORRIES

Didn't that kid Andy that was trying to convince everyone that he should have a leopard say that he ran this site? I would steer clear.

dont want to start a fight here, and definately not commenting on anything else, but is there really much difference between a coldframe and a viv (well ventilated etc) just at night? those coldframes get pretty humid as they heat up.

please correct me if i'm wrong, but in a polite, and constructive way.

Hi Paula,

With a cold frame, the tort can move in and out of it to heat up or cool down as he chooses. If he was in a viv, there is no where for him to go when he gets too hot, and he is in there all the time with the humid air. Also looking out through the glass stresses him out as he cannot understand why he cannot walk through it.

Hope this helps
