It was always great when I was a kid but its not so great now I'm a mum
I think its just that the past 3 or 4 years the summers have been very wet and cool, a lot of the time they can't even get out to play

Mine have been off since mid-May just going in for GCSEs and A2 exams - seems like they have always been here! However, one has been useful redecorating the hall and stairs. The other, for those of you who know Stephen, is busy caring for the animals, working at the vets, doing volunteer work at a rescue centre, and rearranging fish tanks, vivs, aviaries, building an indoor pond etc!

Do the schools over there have a week less at some other time? Ours have a week off in October which was called the tattie week as all the kids used to go to the potato picking then, not these day of course but they still have it

We used to go Potato picking in the October week break. The brave one was to go to the Fish Docks at about age 14, at the start of the Summer Holiday's, dodge the Dock Police if you were lucky, wait for a Trawler that was setting out to sea. At the Dock entrance it was just wide enough to get Side Winding Trawler through, the boy would shout Cabin Boy coming on board if the crew needed him they would shout back, come on then son we'll catch you. The Lad would have about a 6 to 10 foot downward leap on to the moving Trawler. Then set on as a member of the crew for a six week trip to Bare Island fishing grounds. They were paid after the trip when the Fish was sold and the crew got there money and would treat the young Lad out of there settlings, most times the money was good.
The parents of the boy would find out that night, that there son was aboard and had jumped for pleasure as it was called a pleasure trip and there was nothing they could do about it. Through the history of Deep Sea Fishing from Hull, some never came back.

My kids have the rest of their school lives off. My 9 year old has never been to school and my 15 year old left school in june. They have a great life, full of fun and natural learning.

Interesting have you not had a brush with the authorities as such.
