Leopard Tortoises and Oxbow Orchard Grass

Hi Everyone,

I've just bought some orchard grass from the Oxbow Company for my two leopards. I was just wondering if anyone else feeds their leopards on a mix of hay and normal grass, as my two are not really interested?

I'm gonna carry on trying as this is the type of stuff they would be eating in the wild and it's much better for them.

Any ideas would be cool,

If they are hungry enough they will eat grass<g> just like humans they get very picky.

I disperse my leopards weeds over the grass in their enclosure and as they pick up the weeds the grass goes in as well!! I havent seen mine eat hay yet, also when putting the weeds in the enclosure I mix some different grasses in with the wet weeds (cut the fresh grass very small) so it sticks to the weeds just to try and get them used to the grass, as given the choice at the moment they prefer weeds!!! lol

Do your tortoises not go out and graze grass?
Which is what I meant<g>.
From what I have learnt they dont always eat lawn grass if cut for them so easily. Better to
let them graze.

I Agree with Sandy you will find your tortoises enjoy grazing far better than picked grass, but its still worth trying to wean them onto picked stuff as this will be there nominant winter diet .
My graecas enjoy grazing grass but would never eat it if it was picked and offered.

ive started only giving my leos weeds once every 2-3 days for an hour, and the rest of the time they have access to eating either grass or hay and they appear fine for now, ive been doing this for about 2 weeks.

my leopard lodger since she has been with me has munched on Readigrass which I have on floor of her house. In the outdoor enclosure she has eaten grass, pansies, hostas and weeds. Plus I have offered her weeds on top of timothy hay where she has tried to pick off weeds but has also picked up the hay.

Not sure if your question was to me Sandy or Hudini, but yes my leopards are outside all the time and its seems given the choice they dont eat the grass prefering weeds! Thats why I chop grasses up and sprinkle it on, trying to get them to aquire the taste!! But they are only babies so hopefully grazing naturally will come with time.
