I.D. please..
Hi, i plan to hibernate this little fella for someone else and would like to check his I.D for sure before going ahead. His owner was told he was a spur thigh when he was bought 15 yrs ago and was given all the wrong husbandry info hence why this boy looks the way he does- not sure how easy this will make I.D.ing him. Things have change 100% for the better for him and he is a lively chap. Would like answers quickly if anyone can help as he is at the end of his winddown( he only came to me 2 days ago, his owner has done the winddown).
Many thanks Meriel.x http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/Me...fc1a1.jpg.html http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5c2f550c.jpg http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...psb713238e.jpg http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4d4819f4.jpg http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/Me...a70bd.jpg.html http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/Me...04390.jpg.html http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/Me...74590.jpg.html http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/Me...169c3.jpg.html http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/Me...9db89.jpg.html Hope this has worked. |

Have to be honest that is awful, the old owner really has done a poor job with this poor tortoise.
As for ID i am swaying towards a spur of some sort but not 100% sure. As for hibernating it i really wouldn't are you saying the old owner has done the pre hibernation wind down or his new owner Last edited by Gordon; 19-12-2014 at 02:41 PM. |

Hi, he has only had one owner since being bought from pet shop 15 yrs ago. Yes his owner now knows he unwhittingly didn't give him the best care but has made huge changes and he now has the correct care.
Thanks Meriel |

Oh dear that is bad, I'm swaying towards spur thigh, but not sure. Personally I wouldn't hibernate this poor chap.

There are spurs, but not sure what species as there is so much damage done to the poor thing.
I would guess Tunisian or Libyan as colouring is not right for graecas or ibera. But still its just a guess. I personally wouldn't hibernate him this year, give yourself chance to really get to know the tortoise. You might not have a choice, as if he has hibernated before, he might just windown himself. Some of these deformed tortoises can be real charactors:0) If you have had him some time and feel you are confident enough to hibernate him, then do so:0)

Hi, thank your for replies. This tort is not mine, I offered to hibernate him for his owner who acknowledges that his past care was not good though totally unintentional and has made huge changes in husbandry. He has not hibernated before as his owner did not know what to do. I did know he was small and had some deformity but I only saw him for the first time yesterday.
