I used to have a very reactive GSD and I found a Gentle Leader headcollar a huge help - it gives you control over the head (and stops them from dragging you off your feet!!) and this particular one is said to be designed to have a calming effect due to its positioning. They don't tend to like them at first and I would use with a double ended leash combined with a normal collar so you don't have to have pressure on it all of the time. May be useful at least until you can get the training in to hopefully rectify the issues with other dogs.x

Yes he have considered a gentle leader, we don't use the lead on his collar anyway, he has a harness (he walks so much better with the harness)

looks good. I would go just for the socialisation for him too regardless of training. Once I get dogs ok ish I take them to really busy areas and make them sit and watch. I am massively strict with my two, love them to bits but if you don't have boundaries they become anxious and that's not good for the dog. The cheese game is fabulous for getting their attention, training commands and tiring them out. let them see and smell the cheese piece (small) - tell sit - hide cheese - say seek or find - this takes a little while so show them if too long as bigger dogs lose interest - but eventually you can show them the cheese, hide anywhere in the garden and they should find it. Tires them out massively too as they need their instincts. Something you can do sat down as well. Both mine can seek out cheese from quite a distance away even if I hide it in plant pots outside. Lovely photos again, CB

That sounds like a great game!

Yeah our plan is a 1-2-1 session to give us guidance and start us off properly, then once we have got there a bit start going to a group class for some general training but mostly to improve the socialisation!
He is getting a bit more distractible when hubby takes him out so I think we will get there!

The guard dog:

What a smart chap in his bow tie.
How can you refuse a cuddle with a face like that looking at you? He's adorable.
