Default George, leopard Tortoise, Stoke on trent

George is now desperately looking for a home of his own. George was left in a charity shop in Stoke on Trent and thankfully one of our volunteers worked next door and contacted us. George is a Leopard tortoise and it was said he was around 2 years BUT he is suitably bigger than a usual two year old Leopard so we feel older. George however does have signs of pyramiding which means forced growth from a bad diet. PLEASE do not read this and think ohhh a tortoise I fancy one! Tortoises are exotic pets! They are a specialist animal and require a suitable environment both inside and outside! They can NOT be kept in vivariums. George will need a large tortoise table preferably around 5ft by 6ft inside and a large outdoor area which is secure that he can happily spend the Spring, Summer and early Autumn months in! Tortoises DO dig and this needs taking into account that they can easily tunnel and escape. Tortoises also need a good balanced diet of weeds and plants, contrary to popular belief they are not to be fed on vegetables and salad! To go with the tortoise table you will need a lamp to provide a basking spot. We recommend the sun glo lamps which cost around £40 each and you will also need the holder around £20. The bottom of the tortoise table needs to be lined with a suitable substrate such as play sand and top soil mixed. George will also needs regular baths to help him pass his urates and poo. A small shallow bath can be supplied in both enclosures but some tortoises do not chose to willingly bathe so you may have to supervise bath times at least once a day. George is eating well, he is a friendly lad and quite a character and is passing his urates and poo easily. We will only consider a tortoise experienced home or someone who can prove to us that they understand what they are taking on and that they have done their research! As with the dogs follow ups will be made and George will need to be returned to Greyhound Gaps care if the new home can not continue to see through his well being. George has been treated for parasites. There will be a small adoption fee payable to Greyhound Gap and he will not be given away *free of charge* Tortoises are not cheap animals to keep and we would also ask that he was insured as veterinary treatment when needed being an exotic can be extremely costly. Anyone interested in giving George a new home please email greyhoundgap@yahoo.co.uk

Hello, You've come on a tortoise forum, so we have a good idea of how to keep tortoises and how much they cost, also rehoming a tortoise is "free" at no cost! You are asking for an adoption fee!

For some reason the rest of my post is not on the above, I have no idea why, I popped this on here at request of the lady at the greyhound rescue who took George in after he was handed into a charity shop!... The lady from greyhound rescue is a tortoise owner herself and couldn't let George go to places unknown, he has been with them a little while and has seen a vet and is now ready for a new home, I was asked to copy and paste the above in the hope a nice new home can be found for him, I hope this clears things up!
I also See Becci you are in Bridgend, I am also from Bridgend (George the tortoise is in stoke on trent)

I think as it has been pasted it might have had to be pasted in 2 parts. I think the clipboard can only hold a certain amount and when pasted, the excess is not there. That's the only reason I can think of

Hi everyone would just like to let u all know George has found a wonderful home with me and my family. I adopted him a few months ago through the TPG my husband and I travelled up to Stoke on Trent to pick him up he has settled in well was a bit nervous at first and hissed a bit and wasn't keen on men. But after 2 weeks could handle him and stroke him without no hissing. I will try and post some pics of him but my laptop has been playing up
