Default Male Herman's

Male was realy feeling his feet yesterday harassing a female big style, she did'nt seem that keen. After over five year's of being together this was the worst bout i have seen. So thought here we go and rushed around doing some knocking of my own, seperate enclosure style. A little blood was spilled from his Penis chasing and ramming any end will do. It all went back to normal after about an hour and he never turned on today.
Question if he becomes a pest and is confined to barrack's is it all summer or can he go back with the other two at the beginning and end, what's the usual.

Why not just let him calm down in his own barracks for a bit first. Try a week or 2. Then supervise him, and try him back in with the girls? Maybe little periods of confinement will just help his todge recover and settle him down a bit.
I know no one will take this serious but why not buy a teddy like I have. It can be like a testosterone relief item (nudge nudge wink wink) and it's soft so it won't hurt him how ever much he butts and bites. Think of it like a sort of 'stress toy' for him.
...laugh you may but it might be good for him if he's in his own enclosure for a bit...xx

Would be interesting to see what owners who have the same male/female ratio would do. Hope the situation sorts itself Paul, would be a shame to permanently separate him after so many years together. xxx

He might not be the same dressed in a teddy Rach . But i know what you mean, The male has not been seperated as he calmed down today, if he has to be i would like to know how the back with the girl's comes in, no pun intended.

Maybe it is down to the heat? Maybe if there's a dip in the weather temps then possibly not so randy? I'm guessing but cooler today, windy - maybe that figures into it?
I would keep an eye, keep the other enclosure as a sort of 'cooling off' place for him if he gets too randy again. Your doing all the right things. Maybe Dan or Al can add what they think.
(You could always give him a pot noodle! Lol) xx

I don't seem to have much trouble with most tortoises outside as pairs. The only troublesome ones are my male T.g.ibera and they never get to stay with the females for long.
I'd give him a few weeks off if he starts again, than put him back with the female and see how it goes. If he keeps doing it, than seperate for the summer would be the way to go.

Danny, do you think heat, and how warm they are can play a factor in the sexual behaviour? Cooler weather, milder temps - not so amourous? Just curious.

Heat only in as much as the warmer it is the more active a tortoise will be (male or female) and will be doing their spring business when it is warm. So it's more the time of year, where the only thing on a male tortoise's mind is mating, mating, mating, maybe food 4th if not just more mating

Thank's Dan he has been ok for two day's now, so it's back to normal. Bonus a spare hut and a quick fix enclosure is waiting for him if needed.
