Default Temperature for Hermann Tortoise

Hello All

I know this question would have been asked loads of times but I cant find the answer on the forum

What is a good range that you are looking for in the tortoise table?

So low temperature and then top basking temperature

thanks so much for the help

Very excited, getting my first tortoise in a few weeks!!

is 36ish basking area and 24ish low end of the table ok or is the basking area too hot?

Thats a bit hot for a basking spot, but 32 to 34C under the basking spot would be fine. 30C for the warm end, 25C for the cool end and 20C at night should be fine.

It might not be so bad for a basking spot for winter months as I would think you would be overwintering (this time) to try and get to know him/her.
If they get too hot, I would think they would move just off of the spot - and sit to the side.
You might struggle to get 36degrees in any event, unless the room torty is being housed in is a smaller, warmer one with a warm ambient room temp.
As Danny says - aim for 32/34 basking spot temp and you wont go far wrong. Again, alot depends on where the table is placed and whether you can contain the warmth in it. xx

What's the best way to maintain heat overnight in the winter?

Hi hazybazel! I don't find hermans need really high temperatures.Mine seem quite happy to eat at 30degrees though if they are tiny I would aim at 32.Most keepers either use the ceramic heaters in wire cage above the table overnight,or a low wattage heat mat on the SIDE of the table or under the lid of a sleeping compartment.People usually advise a thermostat but personally I use a low heat(50-75watt if a ceramic heater)and leave it on all night for gentle warmth
