MEDASSET - Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles

This interesting presentation will include a general overview of sea turtle conservation, biology, history and MEDASSET’s work.

Of seven species of sea turtles in the world, two nest in the Mediterranean; the green (Chelonia mydas) and the loggerhead (Caretta caretta). Occasionally, the huge leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) can be seen in the waters of the Mediterranean. Sadly, only 300-500 mature female adult green turtles remain in the Mediterranean after intensive exploitation for food, artifacts, and oil in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

MEDASSET – The Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles – is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded in 1988, working for the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats throughout the Mediterranean. It has been involved in conservation and scientific research programmes, public awareness, environmental education and lobbying decision-makers.

We hope to have JG Reptile Books at the meeting for you to purchase any tortoise, terrapin or turtle books.

Please contact Wendy to book a place and for further details.

Just Me and my Tortoise hope you enjoy the meeting
