stupid question!

which one supposed be??

when tortoise go sleep for the night.. with heat light and basking light off at 5pm...

at around 9pm is the shell supposed be cold or warm???

wanted to check..
my torts are sleep in flowerpots under the redigrass..

I turn the light off at 9pm or 10pm and they are warm to the touch for a while after. One of mine then digs under the soil or readigrass near where the lamp will be switched on again in the morning. They stay warm for a while but I'm guessing that at 4/5 hours latter they would be cold to touch

I was worried! think it over nothing!! as my torts are cold to touch and friend mention it should not be cold to touch.

I turn the light on at 7am.. its off at 5pm (if still out moving.. I leave til about 7pm as they normally drag themselves to bed 4.30 - 5pm!!! so saving electric ; ) )

It's supposed to be on for about 12 hours a day so they get enough UVB.

Mine are slightly warm for a while after but sometimes they will have a sleep at 4pm and get up for a while after an hour again, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't it depends on how warm it is, not warm enough and they won't.

Is your temperature on the basking spot 30 to 34 degrees?

Is it a heat + UV bulb?

Yes its powersun 100w (combined light bulb)
It go straight to 38 yesterday I had to adjust it.. this morning its at 30 but that was only been switch on 30 mins now.. I waiting half hour to see what it is like.

so when lights are off at night they should be cold to touch when they sleep then?

Mine are cold to touch first thing in the morning so I assume they will be like that in the night too.

The sun shining in the window makes a big difference to the room temperature and the temp has been shooting up under the lamp, it was over 40 a couple of days ago so I had to leave the door open for a while but when the lights first come on the basking spot is the same as room temperature and it takes quite a while usually to get to 30 - 34c

They are cold blooded and ned heat to heat them up. no heat and they won't wander about and too much heat and they will try to dig down to avoid it or go to a cooler spot
